A Heartfelt Farewell

February 20, 2023 by Rachel Storck Filed Under: Latest News, Staff

Celebrating our dear colleague Sarah Jane as she steps down as Gallery and Program Director.

Last week we had the chance to celebrate Sarah Jane at a small party with staff and friends. We also want to take this opportunity to publicly thank her and acknowledge her contributions to the PAFAC.

Sarah Jane joined the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center in the fall of 2018 and brought art and creativity as the Gallery and Program Director for four years. During her time here she curated and oversaw 17 exhibitions and helped to host 8 festivals in addition to opening receptions, park and house tours, community presentations, and workshops. Even during the start and heights of the Covid pandemic, Sarah Jane continued to bring art to our community through online and distanced programming and helped to keep the PAFAC operational during uncertain times.

In her tenure she has cultivated partnerships with Olympic Peninsula Authors to bring us our
Poetry in the Park program and has helped us establish relationships with community groups
like Clallam Mosiac, Olympic Peninsula Art Association, and the Peninsula Fiber Artists.

Sarah Jane was also instrumental in re-establishing open-air exhibitions and building out our Summertide and Wintertide festivals. She is the creator of the Makers Market which has seen HUGE growth over its three seasons and the conceiver of our Light Art Experience. From running a maze of electrical cords to Light Art installations to selecting and displaying artwork at its best to becoming our own Esther Webster expert, her dedication to the PAFAC and love for art has benefited us all immensely.

As co-workers, we miss her kind and supportive presence in the office every day and we’re sure that many of you will also miss seeing her regularly. However, we are overjoyed to report that Sarah Jane will still be involved with the arts center as a volunteer and teaching artist.

Thank you, Sarah Jane for sharing your creativity and talents with us. We wish you all the best!
