Eternal Echoes brings together the past and present by examining historic death rituals alongside emerging contemporary practices. It highlights artists and death workers who engage with mortality in thought-provoking ways, challenging taboos while honoring traditions and the deceased. Eternal Echoes invites viewers to reconsider how we engage with death, how we honor those who came before us, and how art can offer a bridge between the living and the departed.
By confronting death, we do not diminish life; rather, we enrich it. This exhibition seeks to open space for dialogue, reflections, and perhaps even a reimagining of our relationship with the inevitable, transforming fear into understanding and loss into legacy.
View the exhibition during gallery hours, Thursdays-Sundays from 11AM-5PM in the Esther Webster Gallery located at 1203 E Lauridsen Blvd. and attend the complementing event The Living Experience at Field Arts & Events Hall on March 8th.
The Opening Reception of Eternal Echoes is an evening curated to bring community together through engagement with art and intentional conversation. Challenge your perspective on death and watch as we see loss transformed into legacy through the arts.
Light bites will be provided and drinks will be available for purchase.
Port Angeles Fine Arts Center presents The Living Experience speaker series where renowned authors, researchers, artists, and cultural organizations will share their informed perspectives on topics related to death. The Living Experience series shines a light on death workers and historians whose practices engage mortality with curiosity, care, and creative rigor. From working in morgues, to being an autopsy photographer, to researching the history of books bound in human skin, to creating mourning jewelry, this lecture event will look to challenge cultural taboos, honor traditions and the deceased, and offer a look at what it means to work within the death industry.
