Call for Art
The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center seeks proposals for outdoor-friendly artworks to be exhibited in Webster’s Woods Sculpture Park. The theme of this year’s summer exhibit is:
Under the Canopy: How nature inspires us to engage, create and connect.
When we are offered the opportunity to tangibly interact with art, how does it shape our experience and deepen our relationship to our surroundings? This year, for our Summertide sculpture installations in Webster’s Woods, we are excited to explore the connections formed when individuals are invited to actively engage with art in nature. We seek artists to create sculptures that encourage viewers to interact with the works through movement, sound, touch or even as a place to sit and rest. As every experience we have within the natural world impacts and influences that landscape, we invite artists to explore how their piece both enhances and alters, shapes, or stands apart from the landscape. We encourage artists to play with strong colors so the installations can stand out more prominently among the trees and greenery and visually invite viewers in.
Existing pieces as well as proposals for new works will be considered. The selected works will be installed among more than 100 existing sculptures throughout the park’s 5 acres of forested parkland and open meadow. Applicants are encouraged to visit Webster’s Woods Sculpture Park to experience firsthand the park’s rugged terrain, second-growth Olympic forest, and striking views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
