Have you heard about field trips at the PAFAC?
In March alone we had a total of 174 field trip students! That’s 174 kids who got to experience art in the gallery, make connections between nature and art in our sculpture park, and incorporate what they’ve learned into their own art projects.
When visiting the fine arts center, students have multiple opportunities; tour the gallery and learn about themes in the current exhibit, sharpen observation skills while exploring Webster’s Woods, work together on team building exercises, or get creative with an art project. Mandy, our Youth Education Director, works with teachers to put together lesson plans and itineraries that work for the needs of each class.
For example, field trip participants that recently visited during our current exhibition, ‘What’s For Lunch?’ got to learn about “eating the rainbow” and how foods of different colors benefit us. They also learned about food webs through a hands on game in the meadow. Then students got to take what they learned about food and create their own sandwiches out of textured papers.
In addition to our regular gallery and sculpture park options, we are now offering an archive based field trip. After completing an up to date archive of the Esther Webster collection, we selected specific pieces to share with students. By using actual pieces from the archive, like a printing block, we are able give those pieces a second life and connect students to the artwork through real life examples and a hands on process. The pictures below show students creating block prints from blocks carved by Esther Webster herself!
Our field trips are free for all grade levels and we have a bit of funding to help with transportation costs as well.
