Paper & Paste is an exhibition about transformation-how something as simple as a sheet of paper can become a world of its own.
Here, artists fold, cut, layer, and glue to push paper beyond its familiar boundaries. Sheets transform into sculptural forms; cutouts open into delicate windows of light and space. Every surface holds the possibility of a new form. In these works, paper becomes both structure and story, both surface and substance.

This workshop will serve as a hands-on introduction to Oneiroframes for students interested in creating their own 3D layered paper art piece with natural backlighting. We will introduce you to the various tools, materials, and techniques involved in cutting paper with a blade and will guide you through the process of designing, cutting, and assembling your own paper art piece. We will have a template design available, but participants are welcome to create their own design, so come with an idea in mind for what you would like to make!
Materials and tools will be provided. The only thing you need to bring is your own curiosity and creativity!
Brittany Otto is a paper artist known for combining layered paper and light into shadowbox sculptures that she calls Oneiroframes. Based in Seattle, Washington since 2012, she explored a variety of artistic media by creating dramatic and detailed costumes before finding her passion for paper sculpture. The first pieces she ever made in 2016 was a gift for her future husband. Since then, she has further developed her own techniques of cutting and layering paper and light to create her own unique and illustrative voice. Each piece starts as a pencil and paper sketch. Every line is painstakingly traced and hand cut with a blade. Her work is influenced by her struggles with mental health and her love of fantasy, mythology, and biology to creative transformative, dream-like portals that draw the viewer into expressive worlds that shine brightest when surrounded by darkness.
Patty Grazini: “In Seattle, from a very early age, I have been drawn to the interplay of pattern, and color. I find much satisfaction working with paper, utilizing previous skills and techniques that I have transferred to paper. In my work, I attempt to communicate a timelessness and remoteness from everyday life. I am inspired by the beauty of time long past, and a desire to know and capture it. I have been influenced by traveling and love to be surrounded by history. It helps me to attempt to realize another time and culture. I gather paper in various places, preferring to construct with ephemeral which has been in another person’s hands at another time. Layer upon layer, I add paper to create depth and details arousing the desire in the viewer, to linger and explore. It is easy for me to become lost in the embellishments and details.I prefer rich shadowy colors, as I find they are less revealing, requiring more study and observation.”
