Celebration of Shadows Fall Festival

UPDATE: With the impending heavy rain expected for Saturday we have adapted our event in several ways and while Fall Festival will look a little different this year we hope to retain some of the features you love while keeping folks dry. Please see our updated schedule below.
As the days grow shorter and we look for fresh ways to continue to illuminate our daily lives, we invite you to join us us for the Celebration of Shadows Fall Festival!
We are thrilled to partner with the Crankie Factory, North Olympic Library System, and the Community Playhouse to bring you an amazing night of activities from 5-8:30PM.
Register for a pumpkin carving or crankie workshop in the morning or join us for the evening festivities with pumpkins on display throughout Webster’s Woods, spooky stories, an illuminated gallery, an evening performance by The Crankie Factory in the meadow, art stations, and food and drink for purchase.
The festival is free with a suggested donation of $5 per person. Donations help us keep this event free and open to everyone, so each dollar is appreciated!
Pumpkin Carving Workshop and Contest!
Join one of our workshop sessions on Saturday or carve at home and enter your pumpkin into the contest during festival evening.
Carving Workshops: 10am-11:30am | 12pm-1:30pm | 2pm-3:30pm
$10/$12 Workshop | $5 Drop off- REGISTER HERE
Once you create your pumpkin masterpiece during the workshop, it is automatically entered into the Pumpkin Carving Contest for a chance to win prizes from local businesses!
If you carve at home: Drop off your pumpkin at the PAFAC to be entered into the contest anytime between 11-5PM on October 19th.
Build a Crankie!
Join us for a mini "crankie" workshop. "What is a crankie", you ask? Crankies, known as moving panoramas, are an age old art form that originated in the 18th century in Europe. They consist of a story on a scroll that one manually cranks to keep the story moving. Crankies often play on shadow and light to bring the moving story to life. Participants will design and take home a fall themed match-box size mini crankie.
We have three workshop time slots available prior to the evening festival and these are in between our annual pumpkin carving workshops allowing you to join us for both if you would like!
Crankie Workshops: 11am-11:45am | 12pm-12:45pm | 1pm-1:45pm

Pumpkin Contest and Viewing
New this year- 4 brackets for ages and skill levels (10 and under, 12-16, Beginner, and Advanced) & more category prizes for more contest winners! If you can't join us for a workshop it is just $5 to enter your pumpkin. Share your creativity and be a part of 150 pumpkins on display!
Spooky Storytime with NOLS/ Art Stations
We are so excited to welcome NOLS Youth Services Librarian for a festive kid friendly spooky story time in our decorated gallery to kick off the festival from 5-5:30PM. Gather for ghostly giggles and whimsical shadow stories perfect for all ages. This has been moved into the gallery with first come first serve seating.
Mask-Making With the Community Playhouse
We are so grateful that our neighbor and Uptown Arts District partner from the Community Playhouse will be joining the fun this year. Join us under the big white tent for art stations activities with Playhouse and PAFAC staff.
Stage Performance with the Crankie Factory
What is a crankie? It has nothing to do with being cranky! It’s a 19th century storytelling art form involving an illustrated scroll loaded into a lightbox. Crankie Artists Sue Truman and Cil Pierce will perform a story about Littlefoot, a step dancing juvenile Bigfoot and the Black Cat’s Jig about a cat who has a catnip-induced dream! Show times on the playhouse stage 6PM, 6:45PM, and 7:15 PM. First come, First Serve.

5PM- Festival begins with food vending by Pacific Pantry and drinks for purchase in the Courtyard Beer Garden
5-5:30 PM- Spooky Stories in the Gallery with NOLS Port Angeles Branch Youth Services Librarian Jennifer LuBecke. As we have moved indoors, space will be limited so get there early to grab your spot.
5- 7PM- Glow Scavenger Hunt, Arts Stations under the parking lot tent, Haunted Gallery, and Pumpkins on Display.
5:30-6:30 PM- Pumpkin Contest Judging
7PM- Pumpkin Contest Winners Announced on the Meadow Stage.
6PM, 6:45 PM, & 7:15- Grab your seat at the Community Playhouse for a Crankie Storytelling! Hand Crankie Heart Felt Stories with master storytellers Sue Truman and Cil Pierce.
7:30-8:30PM- Winners grab your prizes, pick up your pumpkins.
WHERE TO PARK: We have space in our lot for 30 cars and there is ample parking throughout the neighborhood. Additional parking lots are available at the Community Playhouse, Franklin Elementary School or at Peninsula College on Lauridsen Blvd (3-5 minute walk).
We have one accessible parking spot near on next to the gallery and drop-offs are welcome as well for those who need assistance getting into the gallery. Check with the parking attendant on Jones Street.
